Letter from the Commissioner
December 2008 Dear Fellow State Employee: There is no question that today's economy is causing a hardship for many of those living in our communities. With our help we can strengthen the programs and services that the participating charitable organizations in the Connecticut State Employees' Campaign (CSEC) continually offer to those in need. Last year many of you joined me in December as we "Gave up a Cup of Coffee" for the CSEC. It was through our generosity that collectively we brought the campaign total to over $2 million. All it took was giving up some loose change or maybe even a dollar to put us over the top. This year we are asking that you please consider making a payroll deduction pledge or one time gift contribution, so together we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Contribution forms or more information about the CSEC can be obtained by calling the campaign director at (860) 402-8430. On behalf of the CSEC Committee, I want to "Thank YOU" for your ongoing support of this campaign. Sincerely, Commissioner James M. Thomas October 2008 Dear Fellow State Employee: Connecticut state employees and retirees helped to set a new record in 2007 in the Connecticut State Employees' Campaign (CSEC) for the benefit of those less fortunate. Their contributions, totaling more than $2 million, are being used by hundreds of charitable organizations. As the statewide campaign chair of the CSEC for both 2007 and 2008, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all state employees and retirees for their overwhelming generosity and support extended during last fall's campaign. Of the $2,006,000 raised in 2007, $51,724 was unselfishly donated by state retirees. The CSEC affords state employees and retirees the opportunity to contribute to non-profit charitable organizations that provide a wide range of services including shelters for the homeless, research for the cure of illnesses and care for children and seniors. As we undertake the 2008 CSEC season, I would like to extend my gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers whose presence and voice in each state agency make this campaign the success that it continually is year after year. A special thank you and congratulations are extended to UConn Health Center employees, the leading state agency in contributions and participation for five years in a row. The 2008 campaign goal has been set at $2,050,000. In today’s economy contributions made this year by state employees and retirees will be extremely critical. Together, through our contributions to the 2008 CSEC, we can help alleviate some of the challenges that our friends, neighbors and relatives may face in the months ahead. Thanks a million for helping to make "your campaign"– the Connecticut State Employees' Campaign – a huge success in 2007. Let’s rewrite history and make 2008 the best campaign year ever! Sincerely, Commissioner James M. Thomas |
